Bush Should Wait on War for Unified Support
by Tim Erickson (2003)
Hold Up, Texas Boy. Urging Restraint Before President Bush Began His War Without End
Hi Mr. President. My name is Tim, and I’m a Kansan. Born and raised in Chanute, hick through-and-through. Full of Republican DNA by osmosis, conservative by up-bringing, self-deprecating with the best of us. Programmed for hard work, and open to strangers. Dismissive of the east coast, fiercely independent in the prairie tradition, and loyal to my government.

When Mr. Corben Came to Town
by Tim Erickson (2003)
A Little Aviation History. Famous In Some Circles, This Pioneer Came and Went With Little Notice In The Air Capital.
The 1920s were huge for the city of Wichita and its relationship to aviation. Early pioneer Clyde Cessna had been flying around since 1911 in a modified “Bleriot-type” monoplane he called Silver Wings; and farther north in Topeka A.K. Longren had been promoting aviation and flying around in a design he had copied from Glenn Curtiss’ Golden Flyer.

Who is My Neighbor / The Evil From Without
by Tim Erickson (2003)
Published Editorials. In Many Different Arenas, Schisms And Fractures Are Shutting Down Meaningful Dialogue
Over the past few years, I have been watching an American shouting match. Seems like everyone wants to yell at each other, and I have noticed an increased unwillingness to make room for the other.
From economics to politics to religion, we appear to be actively looking for differences, and are gleefully tearing apart the fabric of cohesiveness. As a people, we are losing the Spirit- gift of empathy, and in the best of pharisaic traditions, we are easily and casually pronouncing the damnation: “He is NOT my neighbor.”

What You See Ain’t Necessarily What You Get
by Tim Erickson
Editorials. A Society Built On Hat Tricks And Illusions Is Like A House Built On Sand
Many years ago, I used to jump out of airplanes on a regular basis. I loved the sensory assault that happened when I hung on the strut, waiting for my companions to position themselves outside the airplane.
The wind pulled and tugged against my jumpsuit, and the smell of avgas got mixed up with the sound of the airplane motor. When I released my grip and fell away from the airplane, I could see fellow skydivers tumbling and turning toward me, while the airplane appeared to float away at an alarming speed.

Chanute Plan Leaves Student Unprepared
by Tim Erickson (1976)
Rebel-rousing The Rural Natives. My High School Graduation Speech.
For the last five years, Chanute’s school district has been under what’s commonly called the “Chanute Plan.” It’s a plan which I feel has de-emphasized the 3-R’s, and put increased emphasis on creativity, individuality and a “do your own thing” education. Tonight, as a senior, I’d like to talk about that system. I also want to point out now that this is a criticism of the system, not the faculty.
